Last week, Isabelle Tavares from Planet Detroit News reached out about covering my upcoming Learn to Mend workshop. We had a phone interview and then she came to my class and chatted with some of the participants about their thoughts on sustainability and why they were interested in learning to mend. It was a lot of fun to hear everyone's reason for coming and their motivation to learn. I am so excited to see my little classes shared about more widely as I am so passionate about sharing this important skill. Read the full article here.

I'm transforming my studio space—currently used for product creation and pop-up retail—into a community sewing and fiber arts center. The vision includes weekly workshops and memberships for sewing and dyeing activities. While I'm still finalizing the details, you can join the email list here to be notified when studio memberships become available.
Overdyeing old garments is an amazing way to give them new life. I am so excited to offer this service using plant dyes. If you're interested in having your piece dyed by me, please make a purchase via the listing for the color of the month I'm offering. I put this guide together to help you understand which category your item falls under. Please note that to have your piece dyed with natural dyes, it needs to be a natural fiber (cotton, linen, silk, wool, etc). Please contact me if you can't determine the content of your piece! Here's how...
It’s hard to explain the simple joy that comes from selecting colors, cutting and piecing together fabric. Quilting is a craft that is simple, accessible and creative. There’s no “wrong” way to do it. You can follow traditional patterns made up of triangles and squares, or you can intuitively piece together a design of your own. I love quilting because you can use every precious bit of fabric and leave almost nothing to waste. In my practice, minimizing waste is so important as a way to reduce environmental impact. It’s also a fun creative challenge to ask yourself - what...

This week, I had the opportunity to be featured in a piece by Model D Media. They're doing a series on Build Institute, a nonprofit supporting small businesses in Detroit. I talked about my experience working with them during my Kiva loan crowdfunding campaign.
Step 1 First, we cut undyed fabric from the bolt and prepare it for dyeing. Step 2 Next, we soak the fabric in a mordant bath of alum overnight to help the color last longer and look brighter and more vibrant. We use large storage tubs to ensure that the fabric can move around freely in the mordant bath. Step 3 We create a dye bath in a large stockpot with plant material, similar to making tea. We add boiling water to the plant matter and strain it into a pot of water. Step 4 Afterward, we add the prepared...
